FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) Hair Transplant Procedure, Reviews & Costs

FUE involves removing follicular units one by one by using a precise and tiny motorised punch. Here at HQ we use the very latest WAW FUE system which is designed in such a way as to minimise the chances of damaging the follicles. Great care is taken with the grafts as they are extracted and trimmed ready for implantation.

The final steps are the same for both FUE and FUT Hair Transplants. Tiny incisions in the recipient area are made using a micro blade which are a fraction of a millimetre. How these micro incisions are made determine the depth and angulation of the growth. Here at HQ our experts mimic the pattern of natural hair growth to seamlessly blend with your existing hair.

Some patients are more suitable for FUT procedures than FUE procedures. More complex cases may require a combination of procedures for maximum coverage and density.

The FUE Procedure

FUE is slightly less invasive that the FUT method and leaves no linear scar on the back of the head.

As individual follicles are removed, they only leave tiny puncture scars, which are practically invisible to the naked eye and heal very quickly. There is hardly any post-operative pain and discomfort and recovery time is between one-two weeks, although most people are back to work in a few days.

01 Removing Individual Follicles

Removing Individual Follicles

During the process, healthy hair follicles are delicately removed under local anaesthetic. Our expert hair surgeons use precise and accurate incisions to remove each follicle manually without damaging them. We have invested in the latest equipment and technology to compliment the hair surgeon’s meticulous skills and ability to produce grafts of the highest quality.

02 Preparing the Scalp

Preparing the Scalp

Your hair surgeon then uses a microsurgical tool to make hundreds of tiny punctures to your scalp in the shape of your desired new hairline. The depth, angle, direction, density and geometry of the punctures determines how the hair grows and how natural the result looks and feels.

03 Implanting the Grafts

Implanting the Grafts

Grafts are placed using sterile forceps by trained technicians who each have over a decade of experience. Our highly skilled team insert the grafts at an angle and density that matches the original hair, making sure the end result resembles the natural and realistic hairline you deserve.

04 How long does it take?

How Long Does it Take?

A smaller procedure, whereby only around 500 grafts are needed can be completed in as little as a couple of hours. A more complex procedure of around 2,500 to 3,500 grafts will require an 8-hour session that stretches over one day. If your hair surgeon thinks that the surgery needs to extend to an
additional day you will, of course, be advised of this after the initial consultation.

Recovery & Regular Checkups

We understand first hand that the period when you are waiting for your hair to regrow or whilst it’s regrowing (which can happen unevenly) can be daunting particularly without the right support network to answer your concerns.

HQ Hair Transplants sets the platinum standard in aftercare. Therefore we have designed an aftercare programme with set timescales so all patients have the opportunity to have regular check-ups with our experts. These can be booked in to suit your schedule.
