FUT (Follicular Unit Transplant) otherwise known as the ‘’strip method’’, differs from FUE only by the way we remove the hair.
The surgeon removes a thin strip of skin containing hairs from the back-donor area, the line closed via the trichophytic closure method and sutured using dissolvable stitches.
The strip is cleaned and dissected in to individual grafts under advanced microscopes. The hair grafts are then placed into micro incisions in the recipient area (bald or thinning areas of the scalp).
With regards to the scarring, the FUT scar is a pencil thin line once fully healed and will be easily hidden within the surrounding hair above a grade clipper 4 or above.
FUT hair transplants may be better suited to those who don’t wish to shave their hair around the back and sides. FUT hair transplants commonly deliver more grafts more quickly than other methods so if a large number of grafts are required this method should be considered.
Some patients are more suitable for FUT procedures than FUE procedures. More complex cases may require a combination of procedures for maximum coverage and density.
