Here at Head Quarters, we are incredibly proud to have teamed up with a charity that does some unbelievable work for young men across the UK.
They are known as CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) and they are leading the campaign against male suicide.
Suicide is the single biggest killer of men under 45 years old with 75% of all UK suicides being male in 2015.
Did you know that 84 men kill themselves in the UK every single week?
What They Do
CALM run a 24/7 helpline, webchat and support website for men with mental health issues and suicidal thoughts.
One of the reasons men commit suicide more often than women is because we have fostered a culture where men are considered weak or not taken seriously when talking about their feelings.
CALM aim to challenge this by encouraging open and honest communication for men – both through their support lines and through other strategies such as releasing a regular CALMzine focusing on mental health issues, and popular campaigns such as #ManDictionary and #BiggerIssues.
CALM also has several partnerships with other impactful charities such as TASC (The Alliance of Suicide Prevention Charities) and the NSPA (National Suicide Prevention Alliance) in order to push for the necessary changes to policy and practice in order to effectively prevent suicide.
Alongside these partnerships, CALM also hosts SASP (the Support After Suicide Partnership) which offers support and advice to those with suicide-related bereavements and aims to make sure they receive all the appropriate support from society that they need and deserve.
Values of HQ and CALM
Here at Head Quarters, we believe that the values of CALM and our own are tightly intertwined – we work hard every day to increase the confidence and self-esteem of men around the country, and so do they.
CALM is run on the behalf of men around the UK and focuses on using their interests to make a connection.
With this in mind, they connect with venues, voice and brands that men respect and trust across the UK in order to get the message to sink in.
HQ and CALM share the belief that there is a cultural barrier which often means men are expected to be strong and in control at all times, and that failure to achieve this suggests a loss of masculinity.
This is incredibly dangerous as it sows the seeds in the minds of men that they shouldn’t ask for help and should be expected to overcome their issues alone.
We believe that every man that feels able to ask for help when he truly needs it is a victory against suicide.
If every man felt that way, hundreds of suicides might be prevented every year, and CALM go further than anybody else towards achieving this.
Local Initiatives
While CALM operates across the UK, they have also been specially commissioned in some local areas to complete specific targets and initiatives.
They have been commissioned by the Tri-Borough Public Health Service (operating across Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea and Hammersmith & Fulham).
They also work with gyms, colleges, student unions, nightclubs and more to reach men wherever they may be and are always on the look for new partnerships and new ways to increase the fight against male suicide.
Our Pledge
When a patient attends Head Quarters for a Hair Transplant, we donate £50 of the cost of your procedure to CALM every single time.
This means you can rest assured that not only are you working miracles for your own confidence, but you’re doing your bit to stand up and support men across the UK!
